Drum carders

The drum carder is used to make batts for spinning or felting. All Louët drum carders are available with either a carding cloth of 46 tpi or 72 tpi (teeth per square inch). The 46 tpi version is the best choice for carding coarse or dirty wool. For finer fibers we recommend the 72 tpi drum carder.

The carding cloth is made of nickel-plated steel wire on a cotton and natural rubber backing, giving it very good longevity. The frame of each drum carder is made of waterproof glued birch plywood with a white HPL top layer. The drive mechanism is fully enclosed and requires very little maintenance.

They are delivered fully assembled and include a short manual, a carding booklet written by Deb Menz, a cleaning brush, a doffer pin, and table clamps.

A common fact for drum carders is the drive ratio. For Louët, this ratio is 4:1. However, a more practical ratio to consider is the difference in surface speed between the large and the small drum, which is 9:1 for Louët drum carders.

Please note that we cannot export Louët products to Switzerland, North America, Japan, and South Korea.
