Reclaiming the Thread – Threads and Meanings
The “On the Occasion of a Book…” meeting cycle is growing and giving space and voice to art and creativity. The Cultural Association of Saint John, in coordination with the “Marinos Idomeneos” Lending Library group and in collaboration with the 4th Municipal Community, hosted the first meeting on Saturday, March 30, 2024, entitled: “Reclaiming the Thread – Threads and Meanings” with our guest Zoe Papadaki.

Through her personal experiences, the speaker spoke about the evolution of weaving and how she approaches it herself, emphasizing how this activity can benefit in many ways today. She presented modern types of looms and products that can be produced through systematic education.

She also spoke about the efforts being made in our country to integrate weaving into the field of sustainable development. Finally, she referred to the importance of young people’s contact with folk arts and crafts and the many benefits they can derive from this engagement.

Excerpts from the author’s literary works dedicated to the weavers of yesterday were also read.

The evening was musically dressed by the musicians Charis Fasoulas and Giorgos Babatsis, whom we warmly thank for their participation.

This event left a nostalgic feeling on all those present and conveyed the message that weaving is not lost over time but can be a unique way of expressing human creativity.
We thank all those who worked for the success of this event, the library team for the coordination, the 4th Municipal Community for the cooperation, the warm audience for their participation in the discussion that followed and our guest for the eloquent and informative presentation.

The event “Reclaiming the Thread – Threads and Meanings” was honored by the presence of the Deputy Mayors of Culture Mrs. Rena Papadaki, Social Policy Mr. Giorgos Tsagarakis, representatives of the 4th community council and the Lyceum of Greek Ladies (Heraklion branch).
We would also like to thank Mr. Giorgos Platakis for the photographs.
